Why the labour party should absolutely not prevent Brexit

First of all, I would just like to put it out there that I voted remain, and in terms of economic stability, living standards, security, and rights it is obviously beneficial to be part of the union. The EU is our biggest trading partner, and it will continue to be our biggest trading partner. The only thing that will change is we will have worse deals and lose our influence as a major player in Europe. That being said it doesn’t really matter. Being in or out of the EU isn’t really going to change or effect anything. As long as the Tories remain in power and continue to impose ever harsher policies on the poor, the transfer of wealth will continue to flow regardless of our EU status.

The ONLY thing that is important in the near future is strengthening Corbyn’s movement, and instead of tearing ourselves apart over what to do with Brexit, we should let the Tories handle that and let the chips fall where they may. The only thing that we can be certain about is that the party who overturns Brexit will never have the support of the 16million people who voted leave (minus the ones that changed their mind.)

If labour wish to win the next general election they can absolutely not be the reason for the Brexit vote being overturned. The same social antagonisms are presenting themselves all over Europe, and dismissing the cry of 16 million people who on longer feel represented by the political establishment is not a successful road to power. Now is the time more than ever to accept the result of the referendum, and do our best to tackle the underlying causes of which made people feel the need to vote for Brexit in the first place.

Understanding the unifying principles of the movements happening across America and Europe are paramount if we wish to challenge the conservatives in 2020 or sooner. Neoliberal economics has prioritised the interest of business and capital for the past 40 years, it is an ideologically fuelled attack on the poor. It is these people that we need to convince to join the labour party, and if we fail to do that then the next general election will bring us an ultra-right wing coalition of the Tories and UKIP. The decaying economic and political order of the day has let these people down, and it is up to us to show them that there is someone worth voting for.

Now more than ever is the time to drop the ego, drop the superiority, and respect the 16 million people who were unhappy enough to vote for something that many of them considered to be a giant middle finger to the establishment. If we want those people to vote for us, we can't simply tell them “sorry, but we know best, and we want to stay in Europe.” All this will achieve is an increased division in society, and push more people towards UKIP.

The path to victory in 2020 is to let Brexit happen, let everyone feel the consequences and become disillusioned with Farage and UKIP. At the end of the day we know that the antagonisms in society are based around the decaying economic system, and upon leaving the EU people will start to realise that their problems have only gotten worse. This is where the people who were getting screwed join Corbyn, and the racists join Britain first. Personally I am running on the assumption that 16million people aren’t racist, and that the majority are lashing out at the people they perceive to be responsible for their economic misfortunes.

Jeremy Corbyn is the Future of Britain, and his Movement will be the Future for Humankind

British politics and the state of our country is nothing short of appalling, relative to our wealth we appear to be living in some sort of warped dystopian future where it is acceptable that the rich can pay no taxes whilst the poor struggle to survive. We have gone through six years of ideologically fuelled austerity, we are selling off all our publicly paid for services to the Tories wealthy mates, hundreds of thousands of people are being forced to use food banks, Inequality is at a record high, we are seeing what is left of our rights being ripped away by this Tory government, and we can do absolutely nothing about it. The sense of powerlessness is pretty dam overwhelming.

First of all, we need to identify why the right of the labour party are part of the problem. It appears to be more and more obvious that the liberal media / current political spheres have no real understanding of the true antagonisms in today’s society, and it becomes pretty tedious to argue against all these “well educated” liberals, who do nothing but talk down to you with a bunch of neoclassical economics and tell us that “there is no alternative” or “things aren’t that bad”. For me personally, in the recent past I have fallen victim to devaluing myself and my opinions because they don’t fit in with the current conventional wisdom. But the more I read, and the more these sorts of events, such as Brexit, Trump, and the rise of Corbyn / Sanders happen, the less the political narrative is able to convince.

Neoliberalism has dominated British politics since the 1970’s, and it still dominates politics now. The current right of the labour party, or “Blairites” or whatever you want to call them, are looking to solve societies problems within the parameters of this ideology. Which to put it bluntly is relying on business and the market to come to the rescue and save the country. Whether or not they happen to believe this, or are simply getting rich and laying the foundations for future careers, is kind of irrelevant. What matters is that there is no answer to the current economic crisis within the scope of this strand of thought.

I mean the argument for privatisation in 2016, what really is it? Do people really believe that only the market can lead to an efficiently ran service? And that the market can only provide innovation and progression? It seems fairly obvious that the major contradiction in privatisation vs publicly ran services is profit. Despite all the reasons they tell you we need to privatise our services, the underlying reason that someone like Richard Branson would want to own our rail network is for profit. Profit comes from one of two places, the consumer, or the worker. Now handing off all our services to a group of people that pursues an ideology that needs to get profit at the expense of the worker and consumer, isn’t going to have a beneficial outcome for either. So already it’s clear that privatisation will not have a beneficial outcome for the people using or providing the services, so what are the other reasons? Innovation and efficiency? Implying the market is the only way to provide an efficient service is ridiculous, there is nothing that current technology cannot do in the sense of planning, that can only arise from the market. Simply monitoring consumption is all that is needed to make projections. As for innovation, just imagine what a team of maybe 10-20 people could do if they were hired for the sole purpose of creating a service which is cheap and beneficial for everyone using it, do people honestly think this is how the market drives innovation?  Capitalism does one thing, accumulates capital and reproduce itself, it will do this at the expense of anything and anyone.

I think the major problem in today’s politics is that we no longer have democracy, we have an oligopoly of people who either don’t give a shit about normal people, or have no idea of the desperate state of our country and economy. Personally I think it’s the first option, but regardless, the past 8 years has shown that this class of people are incapable of responding to the crisis in a way that normal people don’t suffer at the expense of the rich. Because that part is no longer questionable, it is simply what has happened.

This is where Jeremy Corbyn comes in. He is literally the only person who addresses the true contradiction in society today, and that is capital vs people. There is not a single party other than maybe the greens who if elected would move outside of the current neoliberal paradigm, and moving out of the current paradigm is literally the ONLY way to fix the current problems in our society. We have to remember that Neoliberalism supports the side of the corporations, the bankers, big business. You literally cannot be on the side of those institutions and represent the interest of the people, it is not possible.

Moving forward, the Corbyn / Sanders movements are the only path to a none dystopian future, and that isn’t me being dramatic, it is just hard facts. The pursuit of profit isn’t going to solve climate change, it isn’t going to solve the refugee crisis, it isn’t going to stop war, it isn’t going to stop terrorism, it isn’t going to stop rising inequality, it isn’t going to stop homelessness, and it isn’t going to stop any of the other problems that it is in some way responsible for in society. This is why when I talk to people who don’t like Corbyn, I simply ask “why?”. The responses are all the same; “he is unelectable”, “he can’t be trusted with the economy”, “he is too soft on immigration” and a whole variety of other reasons. However what people fail to realise is these are all reasons within the current paradigm of neoliberalism, and to be honest, nobody could run for any seriously political position on Jeremy’s platform and not get the exact same treatment he has received in the media, which paradoxically fuels the self-fulfilling prophecy of his “unelectablitlity”.

What the current liberals fail to understand is that the current political establishment, and its mechanisms it has in place to stop anyone like Jeremy Corbyn coming to power, is handing over Brexit to the likes of the Tories, and Donald Trump to America. They seem unwilling to accept that their ideology is failing to the point where people are becoming so disillusioned that Trump and Brexit are the sensible choices. As I have said many times, the left liberals need to join Corbyn, and the liberals on the right need to join the Tories. Anything short of that will lead to a UKIP Tory coalition in 2020.

Jeremy Corbyn has stepped outside of the current political paradigm, and he has stud up for people that haven’t been represented in nearly 40 years, and for that I am forever grateful. The amount of courage it must have taken to stand up to the whole political establishment and the elite class, whilst not once showing any sign of weakness or hesitation is nothing short of heroic. The space that Corbyn has helped create for a true progressive may change the discourse of our nation, and quite frankly the right of the party should be ashamed of themselves. The constant sabotage of Jeremy Corbyn is a last ditch spineless attempt to put a lid on his movement, and in the mean time they are fuelling fascism and handing off our country to the far right. Right now it appears obvious that these snakes are doing nothing but trying to discredit and hinder Jeremy’s courageous movement, and if they refuse to get on board, they should be shown the same ruthless disregard for the rules that thousands of Labour members were shown during the past two leadership elections.

One thing is for sure, the current events in America have shown that we all have one of three choices; Socialism, Fascism, or more of the same.  Only one of those options has the answer to the problems we face today, and the only thing we have to do is try and get their before it’s too late. The election of Donald Trump has proven that with support our elected leader could do address these problems, and this is what scares the shit out of the establishment. It appears Trump will just be more of the same, but it’s important to realise that the only reason the political establishment was flipping out so uncontrollably was because they are losing their grip on the people, and with the power of solidarity behind a progressive movement, they don’t stand a chance.

Dependency Theory, Immigrants, and Hate

After first discovering Marx a couple of years ago I soon began to realise just how valuable of a tool Marxist analysis is for discovering the antagonisms in today’s society. I’ve never had a problem with refugees or immigrants personally. Often you hear people say things such as “You can walk through town and not hear a word of English bla bla bla,” personally I’ve always thought that was pretty cool, that so many people from around the world have chosen my country to live in. It made me proud to be British.

I think the shit that immigrants and people of other religions get in our country is nothing short of disgusting. And what annoys me the most is that people can be so blind with hate of “the other” that they will overlook tax avoiding billionaires, and vote for warmongering political leaders, and then lose their shit when people from other countries that we bomb or exploit want to live here. I think the thing that benefitted me most about Marxism is that I no longer see Us (British) vs them (not British), but I see the rich people in each country as a group, and the poor people in each country as a group.

That’s what dependency theory is all about really. The rich countries stay rich at the expense of the poor countries, and whether we like it or not, our lifestyle is upheld by the exploitation of cheaper labour of people the international system deems less valuable than us. I mean I’m not saying we’re all terrible people, It’s not like we have much a choice, it is a lifestyle we are born into, and one that we become indoctrinated and reliant on at a young age.

But the problem I have is our attitude towards our fellow human beings who are also being oppressed by the exact same system that oppresses us.  We as a country only have our wealth due to imperialism, war, exploitation and slavery, we shouldn’t be allowed to carry on exploiting these people whilst turning them away from a better life. The British empire is nothing to be proud of, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of, all we have to do is recognise the imbalance that is currently present in today’s society due to our ancestor’s choices. We need to re-balance the scales, and we need to do our best to help all other nations of whom we colonised, stole resources from, and exploited to develop and progress in any way they see fit, and this should be at our expense.

But I think we’re pretty far from achieving reparations for the countries that we pillaged in the past. Instead we are upholding a system that is just as oppressive as it ever was. Not a single British person can benefit from the wealth we have exploited, and the labour we continue to exploit in the poorer countries in the world, and then tell immigrants and people of whom contribute to our way of life to “fuck off back to their own country”.

After what Europe and America have done to the poorer countries and their governments in the past 70 years, not a single person seeking refuge or a better life from those countries should be marginalized and systemically demonized by large parts of the population. We have staged countless Coup d'état’s in countries with socialist or communist governments, we have destabilized any government who wouldn’t play ball with American capitalism, we are responsible for the rise in terrorism and deaths of countless innocent people in the countries we bomb and invade, and then when people from these countries risk their lives to get to safety, we show them nothing but hate. I can’t articulate just how angry this makes me. To have your whole way of life being upheld by the exploitation and slavery of others, and if they try to seek a better life they become the enemy.

Britain and the West’s imperialist attitude has been instilled so deeply into society and intertwined with liberalism, that the new forms of oppression are appearing in globally accepted norms. The only way to explain this is that the elite class in each country care more about each other and themselves, than they do about the poor in their respective countries. They all collude to maintain this way of life, making sure that their relative gains to people in their country will remain at a maximum at all times. This is why governments and the ruling classes in poorer countries sell their resources cheap, if they are allowed to stay in power by the western governments, they can be free to exploit their country as much as they want. It also explains why anytime a socialist or communist party comes into power, they are soon overthrown with the help of America and Europe. Less wealth will be going to the important nations if those socialist leaders are sharing it all out with their poor people.

Solidarity is the key. We need to understand the global antagonisms of capitalism are all connected and upheld by the same class of people in each country, and showing solidarity with our fellow 90% in other less wealthy nations is the only way forward for the left. Almost all cultural antagonisms and hate is spewed out by the interests of the top 10%, and as long as they have divided nations and divided populations, they will continue to win the game that is global capitalism.
